Amprius Technologies, a developer of silicon anode lithium-ion batteries, has formed a new strategic initiative, the Amprius Korea Battery Alliance, to expand its international presence and diversify its contract manufacturing network.
The Alliance is designed to strengthen the company’s supply chain by securing critical partners, which has contributed to its total worldwide contract manufacturing capacity now exceeding 2.0 GWh.
Amprius is building on its current technical and manufacturing foundation in South Korea by collaborating with key companies across the country’s lithium-ion battery supply chain.
The initial members of the Alliance include a range of industry players such as battery manufacturers, materials suppliers, cell component producers, and equipment makers, alongside prominent members of Korea’s investment community. These member companies are already collaborating with Amprius on SiCore battery cell production, electrode innovation, and equipment manufacturing.
Through the Alliance, Amprius plans to support its Korean members with both technical and commercial efforts, which includes joint business development and providing access to advanced technologies. These efforts are designed to foster closer collaboration across the Alliance and strengthen the company’s supply chain.
Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, commented, “South Korea is home to some of the most advanced battery technologies and manufacturing capabilities in the world. The establishment of the Amprius Korea Battery Alliance marks an important step in expanding Amprius’ global manufacturing footprint and advancing the commercialization of our high-performance silicon anode batteries. Through close collaboration with key partners across Korea’s battery supply chain, we aim to enhance scalability, improve cost efficiency, and strengthen our ability to serve a rapidly growing global customer base.”
The partnership is intended to strengthen the supply chain that supports the global shift towards electric mobility and clean energy by combining Amprius’ silicon anode technology with Korea’s manufacturing expertise.
Alongside its operations in the United States and China, Amprius is developing a globally integrated ecosystem connecting research, production, and market access to meet the increasing demand for high-performance batteries.
