We hosted our second Women in Robotics meeting of the year on April 26th at MassRobotics. A big thank you to Finnegan for sponsoring the event!
The meeting was opened with a brief discussion around the organization’s goals for networking, social events, content and mentoring – and the group’s mission to build a strong community around women in robotics to provide support and mentorship.
After our initial community survey, it was determined that our attendees enjoyed hearing about the careers of senior and accomplished women in the robotic field and learning about their career paths, choices, challenges, and successes.
Parna Sarkar-Basu describes the meeting in her Linked in post on April 26th:
“We got to meet three brilliant women, with fascinating background at today’s Women in Robotics event – Linda J. Thayer, Elena García Armada and Sarah Mendelowitz. Based on their career journey, here are my key take away:
– Keep an open mind and embrace new opportunities, even if you don’t know where it’ll lead you in the end. Great advice, especially for the student community.
– You can become an entrepreneur at any stage of your career. But you must be willing to learn, get your hands dirty and hire the right people. Sounds simple, but it’s a hard process.
– I also learned about another company that’s designing robots for good — Marsi Bionics has developed bionic exoskeleton to help children walk again. How cool is that? Congrats Elena García Armada.”
ABOUT WOMEN IN ROBOTICS BOSTON CHAPTER
Women in Robotics is a global community supporting women who work in robotics and women who are interested in working in robotics, as entrepreneurs, industry and academia. Our activities include local networking events, outreach, education, mentoring and the promotion of positive role models in robotics, both in research, industry, entrepreneurship and just plain fun.
MassRobotics Women and Women in Robotics Boston Chapter have joined to strengthen the robotics, AI and technology-focused female community. By bringing together these communities, we are creating, curating, and developing a powerful network of women in technology and robotics that includes industry leaders, entry-, mid-and senior-level employees and academia.
