Teledyne Marine Showcased Advanced Sonar & Autonomous Tech at SeaSEC Harbour Challenge

Teledyne Marine completed a successful live demonstration of its advanced sonar technology during the SeaSEC Harbour Protection Challenge Day in Gothenburg, Sweden, prior to exhibiting and delivering two presentations at Navy Tech & Seabed Defence 2026.

The exercise, held on February 2, focused on the detection and tracking of underwater threats within busy port environments. This real-world trial served as a prelude to the company’s participation in the Navy Tech & Seabed Defence 2026 event. During the exercise, the SeaBat F50 forward-looking sonar was deployed on a seabed frame to monitor vessel activity and track Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV), including both autonomous and remotely operated platforms.

The SeaBat F50 is designed for high-level situational awareness, featuring a wide swath that covers up to 140 degrees horizontally. Its high ping rate provides real-time, high-resolution imagery necessary for protecting critical underwater infrastructure.

Morten Bernsdorf, Senior Project Manager at Teledyne Marine, said, “During the SeaSEC Harbour Challenge, the SeaBat F50 delivered a clear, real-time view of underwater activity in a busy harbour setting. Combined with a Teledyne FLIR thermal imaging camera, we were able to detect, track and follow underwater vehicles as they moved through the area. These exercises allow us to prove our technology in realistic conditions and refine how multi-sensor approaches can strengthen harbour defence.”

Following the demonstration, the technology was featured at the Navy Tech & Seabed Defence exhibition from February 3–5. This included the first public presentation of the Compact Navigator, an ultra-compact autonomous navigation solution developed for small vehicles to enable specialized inspection and survey applications. Other featured systems included the Gavia AUV, a passive acoustic monitoring system, and a Gavia Module integrated with SeaBat T20 sonar.

In addition to the hardware displays, Teledyne Marine leadership provided technical insights during the conference. Dr. Thomas W. Altshuler, Senior Vice President of Global Maritime Defence Strategy and Business Development, presented on emerging UUV and sensor technologies for defensive and offensive Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW). Ed Cheesman, Business Development Director for Defence and Security, discussed the enablers and blockers regarding the rapid scale-up of maritime unmanned systems. Technical specialists were available throughout the event to discuss the data and insights gathered from the SeaSEC trials.
