The Border Layer Shift 1B (BOLT-1B) experiment, a joint study job of the united state Flying Force Lab (AFRL), the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Research Laboratory (APL), and the German Aerospace Facility (DLR), launched from Andøya Room in Norway aboard an appearing rocket on Sept. 2. The experiment traversed the Norwegian Sea at Mach 7.2 and supplied a stream of vital information on the physics of air movement at hypersonic rates.
