3 capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) passed away from rabies on Anchieta Island in the district of Ubatuba, São Paulo state, Brazil, in between December 2019 and January 2020. One was located dead, and 2 displayed hindlimb paralysis prior to passing away. Evaluation of their minds carried out at Instituto Pasteur in São Paulo city revealed the reason of fatality to be rabies sleeping sickness.
