Mali threatens to let Barrick mine permit lapse over dispute

Mali’s army authorities has threatened to take again Barrick Gold’s Loulo mine concession when the present allow expires in 2026, amid an escalating dispute over easy methods to divide the financial advantages from operations within the nation.

Mali is contemplating letting the allow for Loulo lapse when it expires in February 2026, Finance Minister Alousseni Sanou stated in an October 18 letter despatched to Barrick’s CEO Mark Bristow, and seen by Bloomberg. Mali “reserves the suitable to not renew the working allow” and invited Barrick to talks on the mine’s “transition section” beginning later this month, Sanou wrote.
