Maturing in Aberdeen, Scotland, the darkness of the Piper Alpha catastrophe impended huge over our neighborhood. The heartbreaking surge of the oil well system in 1988 asserted the lives of 167 individuals. At that time, I was completely not aware of the environmental implications of that catastrophe.
