VFS supports multiple initiatives to advance hydrogen-electric fuel cell aviation for new eVTOL and eCTOL/eSTOL aircraft applications. In May 2020, VFS founded the H2eVTOL Council, which was spun off into the non-profit HYSKY Society. In January 2022, VFS created the H2-Aero Team to develop a white paper for a Multimodal Hydrogen Airport Hub.

This groundbreaking study covers market and economic forecasts for 84 metropolitan areas, 2020–2040, including technologies, policies, markets, infrastructure and economics. This year’s theme was “Pushing the Envelope,” with real-world demonstrations highlighted in presentations by leaders from hydrogen and aerospace companies such as Boeing, H2FLY, Hydroplane, Joby Aviation, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Piasecki Aircraft and ZeroAvia; as well as hydrogen drone developers Aurora Flight Sciences and Unmanned Aerospace; and hydrogen technology companies Gloyer-Taylor Laboratories (GTL), H2MOF, Honeywell, PowerCell and Unither Bioelectronics.
Key government speakers included representatives from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), along with NASA and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
