Water power is there for the taking across a wide range of most of South Africa’s hard-rock underground mines. At once of high electrical power costs, the schedule of cooling down storage tanks at mining procedures offers an opportunity to harness gravity pressurised water that can be utilized to energise below ground effect rockbreaking equipment, previous Gullick South Africa technological supervisor Terry Hamilton explained to Mining Weekly in a meeting on Tuesday.
